About

About Katherine Kiessling:

Hello! I'm Katherine Kiessling, a contemporary dancer passionate about the ever-evolving field of dance and dance theater. As a current student at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), I am navigating the vibrant worlds of dance and technology as a dual major in Dance and Computer Science. This unique intersection allows me to explore the limitless possibilities where art and technology converge.

Dance Style and Influences:

My dance journey is characterized by a combination of floorwork, contemporary, and ballet. The interplay between fluidity and physicality captivates me, allowing me to explore the modern intricate language of contemporary dance. Influenced by luminaries in the field, including Vim Vigor, Sidra Bell, Christina Mertzani, and Jason Cianciulli, I am constantly inspired to explore the boundaries of movement generation. Each choreographic collaboration has left an indelible mark on my artistic journey. These experiences have enriched my understanding of dance as a collaborative and ever-evolving art form.

International Training:

The past two summers have immersed me in the vibrant dance scene of Berlin, where I participated in the contemporary festival b12. These transformative experiences exposed me to diverse perspectives in the dance world. They allowed me to contribute to several performance projects, inspiring me to consider the role of dance on the global stage.

Artistic Vision:

As I navigate the intricacies between dance and technology, my vision is to bridge the gap between technology and dance. I aspire to contribute to the evolving landscape of dance through innovative performances and explore the realms of dance technology. My aim is to unravel the layers of movement, from the physicality of floorwork to the algorithms that shape our digital world.
